COVID-19 Update March 31, 2020

Dear EVTC Community,

Based on the extended closures of schools and postponements of spring sports in Oregon through at least April 28th due to COVID-19, we have decided to cancel our Full Season. We continue to hold out hope that we will be able to have our Short Season starting May 11th as planned. In the meantime, we are working on ways to communicate with our families remotely to keep in touch, and to promote your fitness and the love of track and field. For those of you on Facebook, please follow our page as we will be sharing information, free classes, workouts and inspiration. Again, thank you for your patience as we all sort through these difficult decisions. We are all so sorry to miss this time on the track with you, but your safety & health, and that of our greater community, is our top priority. Take care of one another, eat & sleep well, stay active & well hydrated, and stay safe at home. Be well!

COVID-19 Update March 16, 2020

Dear EVTC Community,

In light of developing COVID-19 concerns we are contemplating a delay to our 2020 Track and Field Season. In preparation for the possibility of a lengthy delay, we are closing our Full Season registration, but keeping our Short Season registration open. If we can start sooner than May 11th we will, but as much as we were looking forward to our full track and field season, your safety, health, and well-being is our top priority. We will reassess what our season will look like on March 31st, based on the recommendations of the Oregon Public Health Authorities and the School Districts. Those of you who have already registered for the full season can expect a refund if there is a significant delay to the start of the season or if you decide you no longer wish for your athlete to participate. Thank you for your patience as we all sort through these difficult decisions. Be well!

We are excited to introduce you to our new Head Coach Michael Donawa!

Hello. I am Michael A. Donawa, a Bermudian National. I have been coaching track and field continuously for seven years. My involvement in the sport spans over thirty years. I was coached and mentored by Brazilian Joaquim Cruz, in the 800m's. I have participated in IAAF and Lydiard coaching courses and actively work with other professionals to enhance coaching resources.

I am very excited about coaching the Emerald Valley Track Club. It has a very rich tradition in Eugene. I am looking forward to working with all the members and helping to cultivate an environment that is conducive for learning, performance and fun.

I attended university in Kansas and Southern California, where I studied Biology. Later, I spent six years as a Police Detective in Bermuda, before moving to San Diego to study and pursue athletics. I have been living in Oregon since 2010 and Eugene since 2011. When not coaching, I am a practicing Massage Therapist and Phlebotomist. On occasions I do some ranching!

WINTER CONDITIONING IS NOW FULL - We may offer a second session in late February
We are thrilled to announce winter conditioning details! Thank you all for your patience as we organized this for our athletes. Our first session will be as follows:
  • 4 weeks, starting Friday 1/25, from 3:30-4:30pm (1/25, 2/1, 2/8, 2/15)
  • Location: inside at the YMCA (we will be using the racquetball court)
  • Registration will cost $20 per athlete
  • Practices will be led by Coach Megan
We are very lucky to have use of indoor space at the Y, but that also means we may have to cap the number of athletes in this first session to fit the space we have. Please register soon if you intend to join us this session. The focus for this first clinic will be to improve strength, speed, and agility: all skills that are critical for every type of track & field athlete (including distance runners!). Our goal is to help athletes become stronger, improve form, and prevent injury, all while having fun of course!
Register online (emeraldvalleytrackclub.org) if you are interested, and please reach out with any questions.
